Newly exhibiting to The Hannah Peschar Sculpture Garden for 2024, Zoe Wilson is a prime example of an Artist who’s career is deeply rooted in the tradition of passing skills from master to apprentice, shaping her work at its core. She says, “Using simple, traditional tools, a mallet and chisel, I draw upon a wealth of knowledge gleaned from skilled craftsmen over the years.

Geometric patterns offer a sense of harmony and completeness, stimulating the brain's visual senses and providing a universally appealing aesthetic. Geometry can evoke psychological comfort and cognitive engagement, inducing feelings of reassurance and intellectual satisfaction.

Carving geometric patterns demands perfect accuracy, challenging me to hand-carve intricate patterns that satisfy the eye amidst a wealth of machine precision. Each chisel mark in my work bears the imprint of the maker, embracing imperfections that defy mass production and infuse character into every piece.

Light and shadow play crucial roles in completing and animating my carvings. As time passes, shifting light highlights different facets of the geometric designs, continuously altering their appearance.

Living abroad for two years strengthened my connection to British stone, which now serves as my bedrock and source of inspiration. Its tactile nature invites exploration, with sharp edges contrasting against smooth surfaces, enticing viewers to trace their fingers over the flowing patterns.” - Zoe Wilson
